Management in the European Union (EU 322)
Lectures, excursion and assessments 60 hours
Group work, individual preparation and reading 50 hours
Total duration 110 hours
Objectives This course aims to provide students with an understanding of key aspects of European Management and European Regional Studies and their implications for successfully doing business in Europe. The course takes an integrated approach, involving the study of the components that are part of the emerging model of European Management, the cross-cultural and comparative analysis of this model within the European and the global business environment, and the practical analysis of marketing strategies for the Single European market through the examination of case studies and student research projects.
The application of the marketing mix variables in different European markets will serve as the basic tool-box in analysing culturally and regionally determined differences in the European environment. In the process, students will develop a cross- cultural sensitivity to doing business in Europe , with a deeper understanding of individual country profiles, European cultural clusters, and emerging European-wide business practices.
Students will be provided with a basic intellectual framework that will allow them to understand the global and the regional/local demands in the formulation and implementation of competitive strategies and business practices for the European environment. They will thus be equipped with a framework for analysing cultural differences while at the same time recognizing the implications of the forces of European integration and globalization. This will allow them to take a "glocal" (global-local) perspective with regard to the Single European market.
