Terms and Conditions of Enrolment and Participation

1. General Requirements

Course participants must be at least 18 years of age. In exceptional cases participants younger than 18 years may be approved after written application and individual auditing. The decision therefore is incumbent upon the course administration.

2. Enrolment and Terms of Payment

2.1. Enrolment proceeds through submitting the complete application form and payment of the entire course fees into the stated bank account of the International Summer School (Internationale Ferienkurse, in the following: IFK).
After receiving the full course fees, the place is reserved. The participant will receive a letter of confirmation.
2.2. In case the full course fee is not received by the due date, the participant loses the right of participation.

3. Course Fees

3.1. The contractually binding fee is the fee stated in the price list current at the time of application.
3.2. Should a participant wish to change his or her booking (e.g. exchange course dates), then the first such change is free of charge. A fee of 60,- € is charged for each additional change.
3.3. Any and all bank fees or other charges due in conjunction with payment of the course fees are to be paid by the participant.

4. Cancellation

4.1. Should the participant be unable to partake in the course, the following conditions shall apply:

  • Any cancellation of a booked course needs to be done in written form.
  • At cancellation up to 10 weeks prior to the commencement of the course, IFK shall charge an administration fee of 160, - €.
  • At cancellation up to 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the course, IFK shall charge 80% of the tuition fee.
  • At cancellation up to 6 weeks prior to the commencement of the course, IFK shall charge the full tuition fee.
  • In case of non-appearance or leaving the course once it is underway, students are not entitled to a refund or reimbursement of the course fee and accommodation costs.
  • IFK recommends contracting travel cancellation expenses insurance in your country of residence.

4.2. The date of cancellation shall be the date of receipt at the IFK course office.
4.3. Cancellation of any booked accommodation services shall only be possible up to 8 weeks before the start of the course. IFK will be eligible to full payment of accommodation in any case after that respective date.

5. Arrival

5.1. Participants unable to arrive at the course location by the scheduled arrival date are required to notify the IFK as soon as possible before the beginning of the course. If such notification is not received, IFK can make other arrangements for the participant’s place on the course.

6. Course Level Assignment

6.1. Preliminary placement in a particular course level is based on the information provided in the participant's application.
6.2. Final placement in a particular course level is based on the results of the placement test administered by the IFK on the first day after arrival.

7. Accommodation

7.1. IFK acts as intermediary agent between the participant and the accommodation providing landlord, i.e. the contractual relationship for accommodation is between the accomodation owner/ operator and the participant.
7.2. There are special contractual regulations governing the accommodation. Participants will receive a copy of these regulations at the course location before usage of the accommodation.
7.3. At most accommodations a security deposit is customary.

8. Responsibilities of the Participant

8.1. It is the responsibility of the course participant to ensure that his or her stay in Germany is legal. IFK assumes that participants have all the necessary legal papers to enter Germany and to reside there for the duration of their studies.
8.2. The course participant is solely responsible for his or her own health, accident, liability and personal property insurance. IFK assumes no liability whatsoever.
8.3. The course participant is required to obey all course regulations and all accommodation house rules for the duration of his or her stay.
8.4. In case of coarse violations against effective customs or unruly behaviour, as well as breaches of german laws (e.g. damage to properties or personal injury), IFK reserves the right to ostracise participants from the course or program instantanously. The expenses for early departure bears the participant. Reimbursement by the IFK will not be granted. The demand for fees remains unaffected.

9. Liabilities of the IFK

9.1. The liability for damage and legal responsibility of IFK and its employees is limited to intent and culpable negligence. Neither the IFK nor its employees are liable for the cancellation of its services due to force majeure, insufficient application numbers, industrial action, reasons due to slight negligence or otherwise inacceptable reasons.
9.2. IFK takes no liability for loss of personal property.
9.3. For damages caused by a participant, the according participant is fully liable to the injured person.
9.4. In case of damage the participant will cover all expenses related to negligent or wilful damaged properties.

10. Privacy Protection

The participant knowingly allows IFK to use personal information as stated in the application form for enrolment, accounting and course assessment. Applicants and participants wish to receive further information from IFK.

11. Legal Domicile

11.1. The jurisdiction for the contract shall be Germany and German law shall apply.
11.2. The legal domicile is Bremen.
